The device has a hub cap flange (2) positioned on a side of a mudguard (1) adjacent to a wheel housing. An upper side of a bumper (4) is positioned below a lower edge of the mudguard. A part of the upper side of the bumper or an upper side of a hub cap (5) of the bumper is extended below the lower edge from the hub cap flange, and comprises a T-shaped sectile indexing tab (6). The indexing tab is engaged with and retained in a C-shaped recess (7), which is formed on the lower edge of the hub cap flange. An independent claim is also included for a method for disassembling or assembling a bumper from or on a vehicle.
