The device (34) has a magnetic circuit equipped with a movable actuator (40) having a magnetic region for interacting with a magnetic yoke (50) in a closed position to cause movement of an actuating plunger (48) causing tripping of a control mechanism (18) when an electrical current exceeds a threshold. The magnetic region includes two magnetic attracting surfaces (41, 42) acting independently from one another for creating a driving force of attraction to move the movable actuator in a direction of the magnetic yoke. An independent claim is also included for a circuit breaker.
