PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain generation of oxygen from a cathode when the battery temperature rises as in the case of a short circuit.SOLUTION: A cathode is fabricated by using a cathode active material in which a peak intensity ratio I/Iof a diffraction peak intensity Iof a peak attributable to a (003) plane to a diffraction peak intensity Iof a peak attributable to a (104) plane, both being measured by X-ray diffraction measurement using a CuK ray for an X-ray source, is 0.65 to 0.80 inclusive. The cathode active material is obtained by mixing a lithium transition metal composite oxide and a reducing agent, and by calcining the mixture in a non-oxygen atmosphere at a temperature lower than or equal to the reduction start temperature of the reducing agent. This cathode must be such that when its temperature is raised while being charged so as to be in a range of 4.2 V to 4.5 V inclusive in terms of counter electrode Li potential, the amount of oxygen generated per kind of the cathode active material from the cathode active material layer has a first peak and a second peak appearing on the higher temperature side than the first peak, the second peak appearing in a temperature region higher than 220°C.
