PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially stably producing a phthalocyanine compound substituted at the position in high yield with high purity and good operability.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a metal phthalocyanine compound comprising: (a) a step of reacting a compound represented by the following general formula (1) and a metal compound in the presence of a dehydrating agent in a buffer solution of at least one selected from organic bases and inorganic bases, and an acid; and, subsequent to the step (a), at least one of (b) a step of improving an isomer ratio by a treatment with a base and (c) a step of purification by dialysis. General formula (1) (In the general formula (1), R and Rare each independently a monovalent substituent; and n represents an integer of 0 to 3. When n is 2 or 3, a plurality of R may be the same or different).
