PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fly-height control and touchdown detection.;SOLUTION: An embedded contact sensor (ECS) element for fly-height control and touchdown detection has a resistance which changes with a temperature change, and senses a clearance change between a head slider and a disk of a disk drive. A resistance measurement section is within a head IC to measure a numerical value of direct current resistance (DCR) of the ECS element, and the numerical value of DCR changes with a temperature change, and the temperature change is caused by air layer cooling and frictional induced heating at a head disk interface. A resistance slope/fly-height conversion section dynamically determines a target fly-height numerical value for the head slider over the disk on the basis of changes of the numerical value of DCR.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
