PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reconcile surge suppression and loss reduction in the event of a short circuit fault occurring in a power conversion device.;SOLUTION: A short circuit fault protection device comprises: a short circuit fault detection section 5 for detecting a short circuit fault occurring in the power conversion device; a switchover timing setting section 11 for setting a timing of switching over a rate of voltage change at a gate of an IGBT 3A when the IGBT 3A is turned off in response to the short circuit fault detected; and a surge suppression circuit 9 for changing a gate voltage of the IGBT 3A at a first rate of voltage change and switching over to a second rate of voltage change at the timing set by the switchover timing setting section 11 when the IGBT 3A is turned off in response to the short circuit fault detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
