PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coated nickel hydroxide powder suitable as an alkaline secondary battery positive electrode active material, by enhancing uniformity and adhesion of a cobalt compound coating on the particle surface, and to provide an evaluation method of adhesion of the coating.SOLUTION: The transmittance ratio (A-B)/(B-B) of coated nickel hydroxide powder for alkaline secondary battery positive electrode active material, where the surface of nickel hydroxide particles is coated with a cobalt compound is set to 50% or more. The transmittance A(coated nickel hydroxide powder), B(nickel hydroxide powder), B(nickel hydroxide powder and cobalt compound corresponding to the cobalt content in the coat) are determined by charging each powder in a cylindrical transparent cell and sealing the cell, shaking the cell for a certain time, and then taking out the content and measuring the transmittance of the transparent cell.
