PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To individually measure the optical line loss characteristic of an existing outside facility at a high speed.;SOLUTION: A probe light pulse line formed from X number of successive light pulses of different frequencies and a predetermined pulse width, and a pump light pulse line are generated. The frequency difference between the n-th light pulse in the probe light pulse line and the n-th light pulse of the pump light pulse line is set to a frequency difference (νB) that causes a Brillouin interaction. Both the pulse lines are sequentially made incident on with a predetermined incident time difference. While the incident time difference is changed, a light pulse line having a frequency equal to the probe light pulse line returned from a branch lower optical fiber is extracted. From the light reception timing of the extracted light pulse line, it is determined that from which branch lower optical fiber the light pulse line returned. Also, Brillouin gain is measured for each light pulse composing the light pulse line, thereby obtaining Brillouin gain characteristic distribution for each branch lower optical line.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
