PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomarker for diagnosing depression.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for detecting depression including the steps of: measuring the content of at least one biomarker selected from the group consisting of taurine, hypotaurine, aspartic acid, tyrosine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, phosphorylcholine, ADP-ribose, ADP, AMP, ATP, and SDMA (symmetric dimethylarginine), in the blood collected from a subject to be diagnosed; and comparing a predetermined threshold and the measurement of the content of the biomarker, where the subject is determined to have depression when the content of the biomarker is not more than the threshold.
