PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel wire material good in mechanical descaling property, and a useful method for manufacturing a steel wire applied for various applications using the steel wire material.;SOLUTION: The steel wire material has a Vickers hardness of 250 Hv or less, a ferrite part satisfying a predetermined chemical composition and an oxidized scale part formed on the surface, the thickness of the oxidized scale part is 2 to 15 μm, FeO in the oxidized scale part is 2 to 25 vol.% of whole scale, the Cr average concentration in an area from a boundary face between the ferrite part and the oxidized scale part to 0.5 μm to the oxidized scale part is 10 atom% or less, and an average ratio of FeO in the area is 35 atom% or more.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
