PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving visibility of a picture display unit that enables production of a picture display unit with excellent antireflection performance and contrast in a bright place, even in a case of using an optical laminate with a light transmissive substrate having in-plane birefringence such as a polyester film.SOLUTION: A method is for improving visibility of a picture display unit with an optical laminate having an optical functional layer on one surface of a light transmissive substrate having in-plane birefringence. The optical laminate is arranged such that a slow axis in which the light transmissive substrate has a larger refractive index is parallel to a vertical direction of a display screen of the picture display unit.
