METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CHARACTER SEGMENTATION IN AUTOMATED LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION APPLICATIONS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly perform character segmentation from images of a license plate.;SOLUTION: One or more images of a license plate are acquired. Then, a pixel-level importance is calculated with respect to the images of the license plate on the basis of information within the images, such as gradient information and raw grayscale information. A seam selection can be then applied to the pixel-level importance map and the images by enforcing constraints based on known characteristics of license plates, to provide character segmentation with respect to the images of the license plate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
