PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for generating SiClor GeCl-containing SiClfrom an optical fiber.SOLUTION: The provided method includes steps of reacting, in a case where an optical fiber includes the oxide of silicon, a powdery optical fiber with: a solid carbonaceous reductant; a salt selected from the group consisting of KCl, CsCl, and RbCl; and a boron compound so as to induce the following reaction: 4BCl(liquid)+SiO+CSiCl(gas)+4BCl(gas)+CO, whereas in a case where the optical fiber includes the oxide of germanium, similar ingredients in compliance with 4BCl(liquid)+GeO+CGeCl(gas)+4BCl+COso as to obtain a gaseous SiClor GeCl-containing SiClproduct and of liquefying the product by lowering the temperature thereof to a level lower than the condensation temperature thereof.
