PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify noise generated by various noise sources to comfortable sound effectively at low cost.SOLUTION: In the method for modifying a noise signal N generated by a noise source 10 to comfortable sound, an adjusted audio signal Ais output from a speaker 220, and the adjusted audio signal Ais a signal in which frequency characteristics of an audio signal A obtained by reproducing a content C in a content storage unit 110 have been adjusted through an equalizer 120. The equalizer 120 equalizes the frequency characteristics by utilizing a filter function (f) prepared in a filter storage unit 130. The filter function (f) is calculated by a calculation of dividing a time average spectrum Nav(f) of the noise signal N by a time average spectrum Aav (f) of the audio signal A in advance. The adjusted audio signal Ais a signal which has been adjusted so as to be approximate to the frequency characteristics of the average noise spectrum Nav(f), and accordingly has a masking effect based on physiological characteristics of human auditory.
