PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium of a discrete system or a bit pattern system, with high manufacturing efficiency, wherein the floating characteristics of a head is made stable, even if the ruggedness remains on the surface of the medium and which can satisfy high recording density.;SOLUTION: In a method for evaluating the magnetic recording medium having a magnetic recording pattern, on at least one surface of a disk like substrate and ruggedness matching the magnetic recording pattern on the surface, a head slider to which a sensor is attached is made to float and run on the surface of the rotated magnetic recording medium; signal outputted from the sensor is detected in a non-contact state of the head slider; and the magnetic recording medium and the quality of the magnetic recording medium is determined by the signal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
