PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply some way to coding before amplitude modulation when amplitude modulation and phase modulation are performed in parallel on one and the same carrier signal, thereby reducing an error rate in phase demodulation.;SOLUTION: An optical line terminal (OLT) 1 comprises: a transmitted data series input unit 11 which accepts first transmitted data series and second transmitted data series as its input; a coding unit 12 which performs coding on the first transmitted data series in such a way that there is a greater number of outer coding symbols whose amplitude value after amplitude modulation is large than the number of inner coding symbols whose amplitude value after amplitude modulation is small; an amplitude and phase modulation unit 14 which performs amplitude modulation based on the coded first transmitted data series generated by the coding unit 12 and phase modulation based on the second transmitted data series input to the transmitted data series input unit 11 in parallel on one and the same carrier signal to generate an amplitude and phase modulated signal; and an amplitude and phase modulated signal transmitting unit 15 which outputs the amplitude and phase modulated signal generated by the amplitude and phase modulation unit 14.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
