PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material for a metal air secondary battery, capable of improving charge/discharge energy efficiency, while attention is focused on a positive electrode of a nonaqueous air battery.SOLUTION: A carbon material for a metal air secondary battery, which contains carbon as a main constituent and has a surface area-based HO amount desorbed when heated at 50°C or above in temperature-rise desorption gas analysis of 3.0×10mol/m, is used.
