PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool including a hard coating layer having excellent chipping resistance for high speed heavy intermittent cutting.;SOLUTION: In the surface coated cutting tool, each of (a) a Ti compound layer, (b) a α type Al2O3 layer, and (c) a α type Al2O3 layer containing Zr including a flat-plate polygonal shaped and vertically long shaped crystal grain structure is successively formed by deposition on surfaces of flank and rake faces of a tool base body, and (a) the Ti compound layer and (b) the α type Al2O3 layer are successively formed by deposition in a cutting blade. The (b) is composed of the α type Al2O3 layer with a high (0001) plane orientation rate. The (c) of the flank and the rake face includes a high (0001) plane orientation rate, and the inside of crystal grain of at least 60% in an area ratio is partitioned by a crystal grid interface comprised of a constitutive atom sharing lattice point form expressed by at least one Σ3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
