PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool exhibiting superior peel resistance and chipping resistance of a hard coating layer in high-speed and high-feed cutting of a full hard hard-to-cut material.;SOLUTION: In the cutting tool, a Cr boride layer having at least average layer thickness of 0.5 to 5 μm is coated on the outermost layer of a tool base formed of a tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide or a titanium carbonitride-based cermet. The Cr boride layer is configured as a complex tissue of a grain structure having a plurality of average particle diameters. The complex tissue includes: secondary crystal grains having the average particle diameter of 30 to 70 nm, the secondary crystal grain being formed of an aggregate of primary crystal grains having the average particle diameter of 5 to 15 nm; and tertiary crystal grains having the average particle diameter of 100 to 600 nm, the tertiary crystal grain being formed of an aggregate of the secondary crystal grains.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
