PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of rolling a tapered steel sheet with high sheet thickness accuracy even when a step amount is large in rolling the tapered steel sheet with a sheet thickness varied in a tapered shape in a rolling direction. PSOLUTION: A control system for carrying out sheet thickness control by setting a roll gap based on relational expression which is established among a predicted rolling load and a rolling load, and the roll gap and the outlet-side sheet thickness of the steel sheet is used. A set value of a mill rigidity coefficient expressed by the function of the outlet-side sheet thickness is used when controlling the sheet thickness of the tapered steel sheet allowing the outlet-side sheet thickness to be continuously varied in the rolling by changing a target outlet-side sheet thickness into a tapered shape according to a rolled length.
