PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a yield by recovering carbonizing energy lost by burning a part of a raw material wood for carbonization in a self-ignition type charcoal making furnace, and make dry distillation gas odorless by burning the gas in a combustion furnace because the dry distillation smells of vinegar due to acetic acid components contained in the gas if the gas is released into the atmosphere as it is.SOLUTION: Means for obtaining the carbonizing energy is provided in which the dry distillation gas is separated into liquid and gas, COcomponents in the gas are removed, the liquid and the gas are refined to fuel liquid and fuel gas respectively, and the fuel liquid and the fuel gas are burnt.
