PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing magnesium-containing vaterite type calcium carbonate in which a desirable amount of magnesium can be highly accurately contained.;SOLUTION: There is provided a method for production of a vaterite type calcium carbonate containing magnesium of ≥0.9 mol% but 5 mol% based on the total molar number of magnesium and calcium by bringing the ions of carbonate, calcium and magnesium into contact with each other. The carbonate ion is brought into contact with magnesium and calcium ions in a molar ratio of ≥1.2 based on the total molar number of the ions.
