Production of at least a diarylcarbonate and/or alkylarylcarbonate from at least one dialkyl carbonate and at least an aromatic hydroxy compound, comprises reacting the dialkyl carbonate in the presence of at least one transesterification catalyst with the aromatic hydroxy compound in at least one transesterification column containing at least one reinforcement part in the top of the column and at least one reaction zone below the reinforcement part, which exhibits at least two sections and completely or partially condensing steam in at least one condenser. Production of at least a diarylcarbonate and/or alkylarylcarbonate from at least one dialkyl carbonate and at least an aromatic hydroxy compound, comprises reacting the dialkyl carbonate in the presence of at least one transesterification catalyst with the aromatic hydroxy compound in at least one transesterification column containing at least one reinforcement part in the top of the column and at least one reaction zone below the reinforcement part, which exhibits at least two sections and completely or partially condensing steam in at least one condenser, which is taken at the head of the transesterification column, where the reinforcement part of the transesterification column is equipped with at least one intermediate condenser and led back by condensation in this intermediate condenser obtained heat condensation directly or indirectly again into the process. An independent claim is included for a column for the reaction of dialkyl carbonates with aromatic hydroxy compounds in the presence of at least one transesterification catalyst for the production of diaryl carbonate and/or alkylarylcarbonates containing at least one inlet for the dialkyl carbonate and at least one inlet for the hydroxy compound, at least one outlet for the gaseous head product in the top of the column and at least one outlet for the liquid sump product in the lower part of the column, and at least one reinforcement part in the top of the column and at least one reaction zone below a reinforcement part, which exhibits at least two sections, where the reinforcement part is equipped with at least one intermediate condenser.
