PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical mill which can make a coal cleaning with high efficiency by pulverizing coal without requiring water and further generating dust. PSOLUTION: The vertical mill includes a pulverizing table 5 set at the lower part a classifying chamber 14, a pressurizing roller 9 pressed to the pulverizing table and rotated, a classifier 19 which is positioned above the classifying chamber and disposed to pass the pulverized coal as an air-mixed flow, a pulverized coal feed pipe 22 feeding the air-mixed flow of the classified pulverized coal, and an impurity separation apparatus 25 set in the pulverized coal feed pipe. The impurity separation apparatus has a first magnet set in the circumference of the pulverized coal feed pipe, a second magnet set at a part of the circumference of the pulverized coal feed pipe downstream of the first magnet, and a branch pipe communicated with the pulverized coal feed pipe downstream of the second magnet. The first magnet forms an excitation region, the second magnet forms an attraction region, the impurities in the pulverized coal passing through the excitation region is excited, the excited impurities are led to the branch pipe by the attraction region to separate the impurities.
