PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position guidance system of a hydraulic shovel and a control method for the position guidance system capable of reducing a workload of an operator. PSOLUTION: In a position guidance system of a hydraulic shovel, a determination section determines whether or not the hydraulic shovel is in a traveling state. When determining that the hydraulic shovel is changed from a stopped state to the traveling state, the determination section switches a guidance screen displayed on a display section from the guidance screen of a working mode (53, 54) to that of a traveling mode (51, 52). The guidance screen of the working mode (53, 54) shows a positional relation between a target work object and a work machine.
