PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic procedure that generally includes a step of ring-opening metathesis of cyclic olefins and reaction with an acyclic diene co-reactant to produce olefin macrocycles by ring expansion, or regular alternation of A and B to produce an alternating olefin copolymer.;SOLUTION: The ring expansion of cyclic olefins is provided by three types of sequential olefin metathesis (ring-opening olefin metathesis, cross olefin metathesis, and ring closure olefin metathesis), and the A,B-alternating copolymers are produced by simply changing the reaction conditions and/or ratio of the reactants and using only two types of olefin metathesis (ring-opening olefin metathesis and cross olefin metathesis), and there are provided regularly repeating ABAB...etc. polymers through the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
