PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transition metal compound, and to provide a transition metal catalyst composition containing the same and having high catalytic activity for producing ethylene homopolymer or an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer.;SOLUTION: Provided are the group 4 transition metal compound characterized by containing a cyclopentadiene derivative and at least one aryloxide ligand fused to a hetero ring containing oxygen at an ortho-position on the periphery of the group 4 transition metal, wherein the ligands are not crosslinked to each other; and the catalyst composition comprising the transition metal compound and an aluminoxane cocatalyst or boron compound cocatalyst.
