PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image area division device that precisely separates and extracts an object included in an image based upon color features.SOLUTION: The image area division device includes a small area division part 1 which divides the input image into a plurality of small areas based upon the color features; an object area selection part 2 which makes the respective small areas correspond to an inner area and an outer area, a small area expansion part 30 which integrates areas, having color features similar to those of the inner area, in the outer area with the inner area to form a small area expansion area, a contour extraction part 8 which extracts pixels on a contour of each small area expansion area to find contour information; a contour concentration frequency measurement part 9 which measures a frequency at which each pixel forms a contour from the total of contour information to find a normalized contour concentration frequency; an inter-object boundary determination part 10 which determines a pixel whose contour concentration frequency meets a predetermined standard as an inter-object boundary candidate; and a closed area extraction part 20 which extracts a closed area from the inter-object boundary candidate to obtain an inter-object boundary.
