PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient preparation method with improved reactivity and addition selectivity to a vinyl group/ring internal double bond, when an organoxysilyl or organoxysiloxy-containing ethylnorbornene compound is prepared by generating hydrosilylation reaction of 5-vinyl-2-norbornene with a hydrogen organoxysilane compound or a hydrogen organoxysiloxy compound by using a platinum catalyst.SOLUTION: This method for preparation of an organoxysilyl or siloxy-containing ethylnorbornene compound represented by general formula (2) (Ris a 1-10C unsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group or a siloxy group; Ris a 1-10C unsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group or a silyl group; Rand Rmay be the same or different respectively; and n is an integer of 0-2.) comprises hydrosilylating 5-vinyl-2-norbornene with a hydrogen organoxysilane or siloxy compound represented by general formula (1): HSiR(OR)(1) (R, Rand n are the same.), by using a platinum compound-containing catalyst in the presence of an ammonium salt. According to this invention, the objective organoxysilyl group or siloxy-containing ethylnorbornene compound can be effectively prepared at high reactivity and selectivity by reacting 5-vinyl-2-norbornene with a hydrogen organoxysilane or siloxy compound in the presence of the ammonium salt.
