The television detects whether or not the theater device is in a sound mute state using a sound mute state acquisition command and a sound mute state notification command. When the theater device is in the audio mute state, a synthesized audio signal consisting only of the broadcast audio signal not including the read-out audio signal is output to the theater device until the theater device is not in the audio mute state. When the audio mute state is not achieved, the read audio signal is superimposed on the synthesized audio signal and output to the theater device. If the theater device switches to the audio mute state while outputting the synthesized audio signal from the TV to the theater device, the TV switches to the output of the synthesized audio signal that does not include the read audio signal. A synthesized audio signal in which the audio signal is superimposed from a predetermined portion is output to the theater device.
