PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition for a ball-point pen, which suppresses ball corrosion by passage of time and maintains writing performance, and a ball-point pen containing the same.;SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition comprises a colorant, water and 3-(diisobutoxy-thiophosphorylsulfanyl)-2-methylpropionic acid or its salt. The amount of 3-(diisobutoxy-thiophosphorylsulfanyl)-2-methylpropionic acid or its salt added is 0.05-5.0 wt.% to the total of the ink composition.
