PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ink composition for a ballpoint pen that is applicable to a writing utensil of a simple structure and can maintain an excellent writing performance for a long period of time by using a shear-thinning tackifier exhibiting a long-term stable performance and to provide a ballpoint pen containing the aqueous ink composition.;SOLUTION: The aqueous ink composition for a ballpoint pen includes a coloring agent, water and sclerotium gum. The sclerotium gum is added in the range of 0.1-2.0 wt.% based on the total amount of the ink composition.
