PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for removing residual pig iron from a blast furnace and discharging the residual pig iron at a furnace bottom without lowering the level of a rail on which a torpedo car runs. PSOLUTION: In the method for removing residual pig iron, the apparatus 11 for removing residual pig iron is attached to the blast furnace bottom 1. The apparatus 11 comprises a horizontal part and a standing part that branches and rises from the horizontal part and has through holes formed in axial directions on the horizontal part and the standing part, wherein the through holes of the horizontal part and the standing part communicate with each other. The method further comprises steps of: boring a furnace bottom brick 9 through the through hole of the horizontal part so as to form a residual pig iron discharge hole 10 that communicates with the furnace bottom 6; and blocking an opening of the through hole at the outside of the blast furnace after boring so as to raise the pressure inside the blast furnace, thereby enabling the residual pig iron to flow from the residual pig iron discharge hole 10 into the through hole of the horizontal part, rise through the through hole of the standing part and be removed via a discharge gutter 18.
