PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earthquake resisting method for an existing manhole, enabling an existing manhole with a sewerage main pipe rigidly connected to a side wall hole of a manhole side wall to be easily resistant to earthquakes without digging up or backfilling the manhole or the sewerage main pipe from or to the ground.SOLUTION: A void space 14 is provided by cutting a basal portion of a rigid joint sewerage main pipe 2 excluding a part near to an outer wall. A spacer 5 having a cylindrical part 51 and a plurality of fixtures 52 is put in a void space 14. A rehabilitation pipe is inserted into the sewerage main pipe 2 via the cylindrical part 51. Then, the spacer 5 is removed from the void space 14, earthquake resistant joints at a base outer periphery of the rehabilitation pipe are jointed, and a manhole inner wall side of the void space 14 is filled with filling materials as to seal a gap. Consequently, the existing manhole rigidly connecting the sewerage main pipe 2 to a side wall hole 13 of a manhole side wall 12 is modified to a manhole resistant to earthquakes. This earthquake resisting method for the existing manhole does not require a large-scale cutting machinery and can prevent underground water or sediment from flowing into inside the manhole because natural ground is not communicated with the inside of the manhole.
