PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a DC-DC converter which can restrain transformer saturation and reduce losses without using a special circuit, and a control method for the DC-DC converter. PSOLUTION: The DC-DC converter comprises: a transformer (8), having a primary and a secondary winding, which determines a voltage conversion ratio; switching elements (4-1, 4-2) connected to the primary winding side of the transformer; and a control unit (3) which, by turning the switching elements on and off, converts the DC voltage fed to the primary winding side to a desired DC voltage and outputs the converted voltage to the secondary winding side. On the basis of one or more of a measured voltage value on the primary winding side, a measured current value on the primary winding side, a measured voltage value on the secondary winding side, and a measured current value on the secondary winding side, the control unit detects an index value indicating the influence of a variation in the gate voltage at the time a current starts flowing between the source and the drain of each of the switching elements, and adjusts the timing with which to turn the switching elements on or off so as to restrain the detected index value.
