Sulfur-induced superconductivity in strontium ruthenates

In one aspect, a method is disclosed of making a material, the method including synthesizing a composition Sr₂RuO_4-yS_y where y is in the range of, e.g., 0.1-1.2. In some embodiments y is in the range of 0.1-0.6. In some such embodiments, the material may exhibit a strong diamagnetic signal, e.g. of up to 5% of absolute diamagnetism (χ=−¼π) or more (e.g., at temperatures ranging from 4K-300K). In some embodiments, the material may exhibit high temperature superconductivity.
