Tannin extracted from the guazuma ulmifolia. The anti retroviral drugs currently available to treat HIV infection are the different reverse transcriptase inhibitors.Several natural compounds are in studies on inhibition of retroviral reverse transcriptase HIV virus, among them the shell and between the shell of guazuma ulmifolia (mutamba) which is rich in components with pharmacological properties, this presents a considerable amount of tannins.This phenolic compound are characterized by their ability to combine with proteins and other polymers such as polysaccharides. In order to obtain new more potent drugs with improved pharmacokinetic profiles, smaller effects coleterais and with a broad spectrum of activity to different HIV virus resistant, new strategies have been developed.
