Methods and systems for the separation of CO in low-emission thermal power plants are proposed. One of the systems contains a gas turbine system that burns fuel and an oxidizer in the presence of a compressed recycle stream to produce mechanical energy and exhaust gas. The purge stream is withdrawn from the compressed recycle stream and sent to a CO separator, configured to absorb CO from the purge stream using a potassium carbonate solvent. The volatiles are removed from the enriched solvent by separating or by rapidly lowering the pressure to an intermediate pressure before the enriched solvent is regenerated and CO is removed.
