The invention relates to double-stranded ribonucleic acid (dnRNA) for inhibiting the expression of the hepatitis B virus gene. The invention also relates to a pharmaceutical composition that contains dnRNA, or nucleic acid molecules, or vectors encoding them, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; methods for treating diseases caused by hepatitis B virus infection using said pharmaceutical composition; and methods for inhibiting hepatitis B virus gene expression in a cell.
