The present invention is Sulphonated polyether-ether-ketone / sulphonated TiO2 composite as proton exchange membrane for Microbial Fuel Cell. The Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a recent technology for simultaneous electricity generation and wastewater treatment. In this proposed invention the a new nanocomposite membrane based on SPEEK hybrid with sulphonated TiO2 particles (TiO2-SO3H) was fabricated and used as proton exchange membrane in single chamber microbial fuel cell. To authenticate the advantages of SPEEK-TiO2-SO3H composite membrane, the IEC value, water uptake, proton conductivity, oxygen crossover, microbial fuel cell (MFC) performance and internal resistance were compared with SPEEK-TiO2 membrane and SPEEK membrane. SPEEK-TiO2-SO3H membrane (7.5 %wt) exhibited the highest peak power density; enhance proton conductivity than SPEEK-TiO2 membrane and SPEEK membrane respectively in the single chamber microbial fuel cell membrane. The oxygen mass transfer coefficient (Ko) of nano-composite membranes decreased with incorporation of sulphonated titanate in the nano-composite membranes.
