Disclosed is an electric welding sleeve (1) for welding pipes made of thermoplastic or weldable plastics. Said electric welding sleeve (1) comprises at least one wound resistance wire (21,22 ) with contacts (23,24) for conducting the electric power. The ends (2, 3) of the sleeve are embodied so as to apply a force that acts upon the pipe end in a radial direction as a result of the pressure increase during the welding process. Also disclosed is a method for creating pipe joints by means of the inventive electric welding sleeve (1).
