Flue gases containing sulphur oxides are cleaned in a reaction vessel including a supply pipe (15) for granular material which protrude down into the vessel and form an internal slide angle of the reactant bed (21), a number of concentric runnels (25, 26, 27, 14) with the smallest funnel (15) on top, creating a sloping reaction bed (21) with an essentially even thickness above the funnels and making the granular material move slowly down into said runnels, and flue gas entrance ducts (30-37) above the funnels for introduction of flue gases to the bottom of the reaction bed. Steeply sloping guide vanes (41-43), which lead from the top edge of the funnels towards the underlying funnel, create narrow circular openings towards the respective underlying funnel. The guide vanes make the downward movement of the granular material in the reaction bed even.
