Method and device for controlling the bit rate and power states in access networks based on broadband demand usage information customer network traffic

The method involves downshifting transfer speed at an access network by customer network nodes (NT) during determination of smaller activity in a customer network i.e. Ethernetin a direction of the customer network. The transfer speed is upshifted at the access network by the customer network nodes during determination of higher activity from the customer network in a direction of the access network after enabling prior smaller activity. Messages are monitored according to an energy efficient Ethernetstandard. An independent claim is also included for a customer network node for arrangement between a customer network and an access network.
