This paper presents a fuzzy-based intelligent medium access controller (FiMAC), enhanced with a mobile-assisted random access control, to optimize the random access parameters for the integrated service in the dynamic reservation TDMA-based broadband access networks. The design objective of the FiMAC is to guarantee the different levels of quality-of-service (QoS) requirements for individual service while maximizing the overall system utilization. Our extensive simulation results indicate that the FiMAC is well coordinated with a mobile-assisted random access such that significant improvement is achieved in terms of voice capacity, delay, and fairness over most of the existing MAC schemes for the integrated voice/data services.
