A system is provided that includes a localization module configured to receiveandprocess range measurements and odometry data relative to a physical instanceof a complexsystem to calculate an unknown location within a coordinate system of thecomplex system.A search engine configured to identify a document component that depicts anelement of thecomplex system at or within a volume about the location. The documentcomponent is froma collection for which at least some components depict elements of the complexsystem andhave associated metadata that includes information reflecting the 3D geometryof at leastsome depicted elements. A layout engine configured to generate a layout ofpanoptically-arranged document components including the identified documentcomponent and otherdocument component(s) identified according to the associated metadata for theidentifieddocument component, which further includes information identifying a linkbetween therespective document components.
