A plurality of pairs of skates, where each skate has a blade or inlinewheels and has a light bar for illuminating a skating surface, are wirelessandremotely controlled. A remote controller, which includes an input device,determines the desired illumination characteristics of the pairs of skates andtransmits wireless signals indicative of the desired illuminationcharacteristics.Light controllers responsive to the wireless signals cause the desiredilluminationfrom the light bars of the skates.
