This embodiment of a random event reduction method reduces random events in list mode data obtained by means of positron emission tomography (PET) and includes an acquisition step (step 400) and a filtering step (step 410 and step 420). In the acquisition step (step 400), with regards to a PET scan having a field of view (FOV) for a given reconfiguration, prompt list mode tally data are acquired containing a plurality of areas, each area containing time-of-flight (TOF) information. In the filtering step (step 410 and step 420), an entry representing a radiant point present at the outside of a TOF master in the direction of a tangent line to the FOV for reconfiguration is deleted from the prompt list mode tally data acquired in the acquisition step, and thus the prompt list mode tally data is subjected to filter processing.
