The invention relates to a method for preparing intercalated and/or exfoliated clay from macroalgae, and to corresponding intercalated and/or exfoliated clay. According to the invention, such a method comprises the following steps: macroalgae comprising between 0.2 and 20%, preferably between 6 and 20%, of dry material, are obtained; said macroalgae are ground (11); said ground macroalgae are mixed (13) under shear strain with a mass of said clay representing between 0.25 and 1.6 times the mass of said macroalgae, proportionately, over a sufficient amount of time to enable a suitable intercalation and/or exfoliation of said clay, and preferably at least equal to one hour. The invention also relates to a fertiliser product, a food supplement for animals, fish food, and a ceramic filler comprising said intercalated and/or exfoliated clay.
