The present invention relates to a biomarker for checking whether a specific microRNA is expressed wherein the expression of the specific microRNA changes according to the exposure of the human body to toluene, which is one of volatile organic compounds, and a checking method using the same, and specifically, to a microRNA of which the expression specifically increases or decreases by toluene, and a method for checking whether the human body is exposed to toluene by using the same. The biomarker of the present invention uses reactive microRNAs selected through a microRNA microarray chip as a biomarker so as to be useful for monitoring and determining toluene contamination in a sample of the human body exposed to environment and to be used as a tool for examining the mechanism of toxicity caused by toluene.
