The present invention relates to a method for detecting an indicator of the exacerbation in a COPD patient, which comprises measuring the expression amount of IL-27 protein or a gene encoding the protein in a biological sample from the COPD patient, then comparing the measured expression amount with the expression amount of the protein or the gene measured in the same type of a biological sample from the COPD patient who is not in an exacerbated disease state, and then detecting the presence of the increase in the expression amount.
